Successful First Session of Human Rights Trainings

On July 9, CAPI began its first “Human Rights Institute” program trainings in collaboration with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR).  Mario Hernandez, who oversees Legislative & Community Affairs at MDHR, provided a presentation to CAPI staff and partners on legally-protected rights in the state of Minnesota.

This initiative is an extension of CAPI’s commitment to build the human capital of its staff, participants, and partners to be advocates for self-determination and social equality, beginning with human rights knowledge and awareness.

Held at the CAPI main office, 15 CAPI staff and representatives from affiliate organizations, including African & American Friendship Association for Cooperation & Development, CENTRO, Disabled Immigrant Association (DIA), Southeast Asian Ministry, and WISE, received an overview of state and federal human rights protections, and an in-depth discussion of human rights in the area of employment.
